All about Hugo
Hugo is very inquisitive and loves to explore…he loves nothing better than adorning a pirate hat and shouting “aarrggh” as he climbs aboard his imaginary pirate ship! Hugo brings his positive energy everywhere he goes and sees the wonder in the smallest things. There’s never a dull moment when Hugo is about!
Hugo’s favourite things to do are dressing up, singing and dancing, swimming and getting lost in a world of play. His favourite songs are anything Peppa Pig related, like ‘Super Tato’! Hugo enjoys being outdoors and likes to play on apparatus where there is lots of movement, like swings or seesaws. He also loves to climb and has excellent balance! Hugo isn’t easily put off by the weather and when it is raining, he loves jumping in muddy puddles.
Hugo lives in a foster placement where he has two foster carers and an older child and adult in the home. He spends a lot of time with his foster carer’s granddaughter who is a similar age to Hugo and they are described as being like ‘best friends’. Hugo also lives with cats and he seems to respond well to animals. He can be very gentle and caring.
Hugo has a routine in place but sometimes wakes during the night. When this happens, he usually wakes up, lets out a little tune and talks to his teddies before falling back to sleep.
Hugo’s diet is steadily expanding and includes a small variety of foods. He enjoys typical children’s meals, such as fish fingers, beans and chips and cheese sandwiches. He has recently discovered breadsticks and jelly pots and appears to enjoy these.
Hugo loves to go swimming with his foster carer. He will bravely go down the slide, and this makes him smile and giggle. He loves to jump in and out of the simulated waves. He is a real water baby and has so much fun in the pool. He loves his building blocks and will stack them out and take great pleasure in knocking them all down again!
Hugo’s favourite TV programmes are Peppa Pig and Ben and Holly. He has assigned everyone in the foster a family a Peppa Pig or Ben and Holly character and this is how he will usually refer to them - he always makes his foster carer laugh when he does this.
Hugo’s foster carer describes him as incredibly resourceful and if he wants to be somewhere, he will ensure he takes the necessary steps to get there! He has good gross motor skills, is very agile and fearless.
Hugo loves to learn and will enjoy pottering with his foster carer when he is dismantling something. Hugo is quick to learn how things work and is good at puzzles. He likes Mr Potato Head and putting eyes and ears on him. He also likes shape sorters and can do them easily.
Hugo’s foster parents describe him as extremely affectionate towards them; he loves big cuddles and there are occasional times that he will seek them out for comfort which can feel extremely rewarding. Hugo needs a family that are also affectionate and able to provide lots of physical comfort.
Hugo started reception in September, and he receives additional support for his speech and language and emotional and social development. Hugo can find busy environments and lots of noise quite overwhelming at times, so he requires adopters that are receptive to his cues and able to respond sensitively.
Hugo has recently been diagnosed with autism and has an Educational Health Care Plan in place. Hugo requires adopters who are understanding of his needs and are able to celebrate his achievements, whatever they may be. A comprehensive support plan will be in place with a range of support services available from the adoption agency.
Hugo does not have any siblings. The plan for Hugo to maintain relationships with birth parents will be by annual letter exchange so he will need adopters who are committed to maintaining relationships with birth family albeit indirectly.
